Abstract:
A Research on Investigated of Compatibility Between Cul t ivar-Rootstock in Some Important Rose Cultivars. In this study was determinated of some growth and development characteristics of ten important rose cultivars grown under Antalya conditions. Grafting compatibilities between cultivar and rootstock were also investigated in detail in two cultivars. The research was conducted on the Experimental Research Station of Agricultural Faculty of Akdeniz University in Antalya, during the periyod of 1990-1991. In the experiment used rose cultivars were: Angelica, Athena, Helmut Schmidt, Kadife, Kardinal, Jacaranda, Prominant, Seyhan 87, Shocking Blue and Sonia. Rosa canina was used, as rootstock. Grafting compatibility was investigated in Kardinal and Jacaranda cultivars grafted on Rosa canina rootstock. Ten rose cultivars grafted on Rosa canina rootstock were grown under unheated plastic tunnel. Although the temperature under tunnel has fallen below 0°C in two times, but there was no any observable frost damage. Kardinal, Seyhan 87 and Shocking Blue were found to be early flowering cultivars whereas Angelica and Kadife were found as being late flowering ones. The highest productivity was obtained from Shocking Blue, Athena and Seyhan 87. Angelica and Kadife gave the lowest yield. Shocking Blue showed the highest bud blindness compared to others. This cultivar also formed high rate of bud blindness. Kadife has XV) given the highest rate of bud blindness. Angelica showed very slow growth after planting, but its shoots growth increased rapidly after 105th day from planting. In the last shoot length measure, the longest shoot length were found in Seyhan 87. Angelica followed to Seyhan 87. The cultivars have been collected in four groups according to stem lengths. Athena and Helmut Schmidt were short-stemed, and Angelica was very long-stemed cultivars. Jacaranda cultivar was showed grafting compatibility very well with Rosa canina. Although Kardinal was showed compatibi li ty well with same rootstock. In Kardinal/R. canina grafting combination was determinated starch accumulation in rootstock. This situation was reasoned being stop up in nutrient transfer between cultivar and rootstock. In every two grafting combinations xylems and cambiums were continuous on grafting region. After grafting formed shoot was grown well both of them. According toresearch results, a superior cultivar was not found superior for all characterstics. The cultivars were found superior for some characteristics. Kardinal, Seyhan 87, Shocking Blue and Athena cultivars gave the best results in earliness and productiveness, during research periyod.
